Notes

Roslyn Elaine Branch Rikard

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Roslyn Elaine Branch Rikard, age 75 of Washington, DC on May 11, 2025. Born on March 1, 1950, in Richmond, Virginia, she was the beloved daughter of the late Marguerite L. Martin Branch and Aubrey S. Branch, Sr. Roslyn leaves behind her loving husband of many years, Robert L. Rikard, Jr.; her son, Robert L. Rikard, III; her daughter, Rian; and her siblings, Brenda J. Foster (Edward, Sr.), Aubrey S. Branch, Jr. (Symprosa) and Carolyn L. Bolling (Everett, Sr.). She is also survived by a large and loving extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Roslyn graduated from Cathedral Central High School in 1968 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, followed by a Master of Arts degree from the University of the District of Columbia. She dedicated 37 years of service to the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority, where she served as a Human Resource Specialist and EEOC committee member. It was there that she met her beloved husband, Robert.

Throughout her life, Roslyn was passionate about helping children, both family and friends, with college selection and awareness of scholarship and grant options. In her youth, she showcased her love for music with her younger sister as a member of the singing group, Carolyn and the Jaynettes, performing at events in Richmond and beyond and sharing the stage with several notable artists.

Roslyn cherished shopping trips to New York with her girlfriends, enjoyed reading—especially the works of Stephen King—and loved to sew, creating beautiful gowns for her nieces’ high school proms. An exceptional cook, she delighted her family with her famed lemon cakes and rum cakes, particularly during the holiday season, which was her favorite time of year.

A devoted member of St. John’s DeSaille Catholic Church, Roslyn was an active choir member until she began attending St. Martin of Tour Catholic Church to be with her husband. In 2005-2006, she served as President of The Mother’s Club of St. John’s College High School, where she significantly increased attendance by implementing inclusive practices. She also coordinated the Girl Scouts at St. Camilla Elementary School.

As a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Roslyn enjoyed 29 years of uninterrupted service in the Pi Rho Omega Chapter, serving on many committees including coordinator of the Educational Advancement Foundation committee from 2003-2004. Additionally, she served as Secretary and Board Director of PROC Foundation, Inc. for 24 years.

Roslyn Rikard will be lovingly remembered for her dedication to her family, her community, and her unwavering spirit. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
